The Expendables are a group of white agency staffers who have pledged an hour of their time each day to do some prototyping and research in addition to their daily work.

The constantly-changing team gives people a chance to explore something outside their normal jobs, and learn things that they would not normally do. It is also an opportunity to create subject matter experts in areas that the team rarely touches.

The team was originally called ‘Gaming Task Force’, but Mitch Seeto said The Expendables was a more exciting name – I couldn’t argue with that!

Last month, the Expendables looked into creating a really simple ‘endless runner’ game for the iPhone and Android. Made famous by games like Canabalt, Jetpack Joyride and Temple Run – these games are simple to build and highly addictive to play.

Although we didn’t spend much time on the project, we gained some insight into the capabilities of Corona SDK, a framework that our Flash and front-end developers can easily adopt to create mobile games.
