RFID Beat Box creates music with wireless discs

You probably know by now that RFID tags can be used to wirelessly transmit small bits of data in order to facilitate paying tolls and tracking merchandize. What you didn’t know is that it also be used to lay down some sweet beats. Designers Danne Woo and Stefanie Kleinman have built an “RFID Beat Box” which plays different recording loops based on the use of small RFID discs designed to look like miniature vinyl LPs. The discs are placed in bowls cut into the handsome wooden top and then detected by the system to play each loop, complete with colored LEDs that pulse in sync with the music.
